August 3, 2018 by Billionaire Addresses

How many homes does Judge Judy now have? That we are not completely sure, but it was brought to our attention today that the  T.V. judge, Judith Sheindlin and her husband, have purchased the home of late Campbell’s Soup heir Dorrance Hill Hamilton, in Newport, Rhode Island.

Much more story throughout images below.

Many thanks to the Newport News, Caldwell Banker, CBS2 Boston for the story, and Homes of the Rich for some of the photos.

Newport is known as the capital of the remaining Gilded Age mansions of the industrial period of the United States. There are still many of the grand old mansions scattered across the small, quaint, community. Here is a photo of one such popular Gilded Age mansion, the Breakers, from our website.

The official listing, along with the original asking price of $12,500,000, stated;

“Sited atop one of the highest points in Newport, The Bird House was built with state of the art technology, design and materials from geothermal heating and cooling systems to exquisitely crafted details and top-of-the-line amenities. A soaring two story entrance hall and living room with floor to ceiling stone fireplace welcome with elegant wood paneling in extraordinary detail, inspired by the architecture of several historic properties. Many rooms enjoy panoramic coastline views, while others look upon dramatic rock outcroppings and lovely gardens. Hamilton, who embraced the nickname “Dodo,” was the granddaughter of the man who invented the process used to make Campbell’s condensed soups. She was known as an avid gardener and for her philanthropic endeavors. She was one of the founders of the annual Newport Flower Show. She died in April 2017 at the age of 88 at her home in Boca Grande, Florida.

Hamilton spent summers in Newport throughout her life. After selling an estate called Wildacre in 2013, she built what is known as “Bird House” on the grounds of the former Arthur Curtiss James estate on Beacon Hill Road. There she recreated the legendary Blue Garden in the exact location where James and his wife, Harriet Parsons James, built the first garden with the “monochromatic concentration” of purple and blue flowering plants in the early 1900s.
